Surgery types: different types of snoring surgery

If you and your snoring doctor decide that snoring surgery is right for you, an important factor becomes which of the surgery types is right for you. There are five major surgery types when it comes to corrective snoring surgery. The first is uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, otherwise known as UPPP. The second is a form of UPPP, known as laser-assisted uvulopalatoplasty, or LAUP. The third is somnoplasty, or Radio Frequency Tissue Ablation. Finally, two common surgery types are septoplasty and a Pillar procedure.

All of the following surgery types are designed to open your airways and allow air to flow through unobstructed. Snoring surgery is a widely accepted treatment method to a snoring problem. You need to see a snoring doctor before any decision is made because these surgery types have to be performed and monitored afterwards very closely by a medical professional.

  •  The ear, nose, and throat areas can all suffer from excess tissue, which can affect snoring. UPPP removes the excess tissue in your throat to open up your airway, making it easier to breathe. It is an incredibly successful type of snoring surgery, boasting a high success rate. All surgery types can be risky, but UPPP is both efficient and successful.
  • LAUP is a version of UPPP performed by laser, which is less invasive and preferred by many people. Both of these surgery types are designed to remove tissue that’s blocking the ear, nose, and throat area, and are generally very successful examples of snoring surgery.
  • Somnoplasty, or RAFTA, is another one of the major surgery types. This snoring surgery works by shrinking excess tissue as opposed to removing it entirely. This is a relatively new snoring surgery procedure and is among other surgery types that can be performed as an outpatient procedure. It generally can’t be accomplished in one visit and will require a series of treatments.
  • Septoplasty corrects any deviation in your nasal septum. Surgery types like septoplasty are slightly more invasive; septoplasty is designed to straighten your septum and open your airway so it is easier to breathe. The Pillar procedure creates a harder soft palate through the use of a plastic implant. A relaxed palate is often what causes the need for a visit to a snoring doctor and ultimately, snoring surgery.

If you want to stop snoring, these surgery types are very successful. A snoring doctor will probably recommend having surgery after other methods of treatment have failed. Having surgery shouldn’t be the first solution, but it can be very successful. Make an appointment with a snoring doctor today to determine if having surgery is the solution for you.
